A Woman War Jaqueline and John Dinan 9781921642043 Books

A WOMAN'S WAR is an interesting narrative, especially since it's from the point of view of a mother who's trying to maintain the semblance of a normal life while her twin sons are fighting thousands of miles away. Rosie includes comments from her husband and neighbors, which add another dimension to our understanding of what life was like for families back home. This is an important aspect of WWI and, indeed, of all wars, and the Dinans include so many realistic details that I'm sure much research went into the writing of this novel. My main quibble is that oftentimes the dialogue is stilted and it's difficult to imagine that two people who have been married for 20 years, for example, would talk as though they had just met. Still, A WOMAN'S WAR adds an important voice which should be of interest to anyone who knows anything about World War I.

A Woman War Jaqueline and John Dinan 9781921642043 Books Reviews

My grandmother told me a little of her hardship during this time.I learnt more from this book and realised just how difficult it must have been for those people, the servicemen and nurses families, left at ''home''.
Good reading
I loved this book. It provides a wonderful window into life during the war and the anguish suffered by the mothers, wives and sisters. They were such stoic people during such a terrible time.
